THE
KNOW

The Medicine Hat Skateboard Association is announcing that we are launching a feminine products drive to affect Period Poverty in our community in partnership with Root Cellar Food and Wellness Hub

The Medicine Hat Skateboard Association is doing a trip to Mexico January 1 to 8, 2024. A need of the girls home that we partner with is Feminine Hygiene Products. As we did research locally, it was discovered that there is a major need here in Medicine Hat for these products as many women are choosing between purchasing food for their family and purchasing hygiene products. A couple of suitcases of product will go to the girls home in Mexico with the remainder to go to the Root Cellar in Medicine Hat for distribution locally.

The Medicine Hat Skateboard Association is partnering with the Root Cellar to collect and distribute the products. Melissa Mullis, Executive Director of the Root Cellar “We are so excited to be partnering with the Medicine Hat Skateboard Association to address period poverty in our community. It means a lot to us to come alongside this incredible community organization to support us as we continue to commit to having period poverty products on our shelves for our families. Thank you to everyone who supports this incredible initiative.”

Medicine Hat skateboarding youth to embark on humanitarian journey

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Skateboard Association (https://www.facebook.com/medhatskate) gives back to our community in many ways, including bottle drives dona

tions, and cleaning up litter downtown.

However, their commitment to community service extends beyond Canada’s borders, as they embark on a humanitarian journey in early January. They are going to Mexico, with 30 youth skateboarders in tow.

Over the years, the Medicine Hat Skateboard Association has made three trips to Mexico and one to Nigeria.

In Mexico, the skateboarders will help build houses with Homes of Hope (https://www.ywamhomesofhope.org/), a part of the organization Youth with a Mission. They will also spend time assisting at a girls home, that takes young girls out of sex trafficking.

To facilitate this journey, the Medicine Hat Skateboard Association needs to raise about $30,000. The initial fundraising effort is a bottle drive that starts tomorrow at Ecole St. John Paul II school, running from 11 am to 3 pm. On December 3, there will be a silent auction.
